The strongest earthquake in Alaska

 One of the most powerful earthquakes ever happened in Alaska was in 1964. 131 People were killed. It measured 9.2 on the Richter Scale. It caused Extreme damage. A few more lives were lost. The quake happened in a place where not many people lived. The earthquake lasted 3 minutes. Experts believe that the earthquake was measured 7.8 on the Richter scale. It killed between 700 and 3,000 people. The earthquake was one of the strongest ever felt in North America. The shock reached all the way from Coos bay, Oregon,to Los Angeles, California. And as far as east Nevada, an area about 970,000 square kilometers! (sq km). Fires Burned out of control for 3 days and nights. Some fires reached temperatures of 1,480 degrees Celsius The fires destroyed one quarter of the city.
